A message from Dr. Thomas Palmer:
Dear Peru School Community,
I am excited about becoming your next Superintendent of Schools. My family and I are excited about his opportunity and look forward in being a part of the school community. I am presently serving as the superintendent for the Tri-Valley Central School District. I have been in the position for the past 9 ½ years. I previously served as the middle school principal for the District for two years. I served as the high school assistant principal for 2 years in the Sullivan West Central School District. I started my administrative career in the Guilford County School System in North Carolina as a high school assistant principal in a ‘school within a school” concept where there were multiple schools in the same physical space. We had visual arts and technical school as well as a career and technical school that served 2400 students.
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York at Cortland, a Masters in Education from State University of New York at Brockport, a Masters in School Administration from Appalachian State University and recently completed my Ed.D. from the Sage Graduate School.
I believe my role in the Superintendency is to insure that all students are given the best education possible with the resources that are available and would like to lead your district in becoming one of the best in the state. It will take a commitment and dedication on my part and the willingness to move mountains with the school community. “No Pun intended”. I believe in wanting to build capacity in every student to become globally competitive, to be successful in whatever endeavor they choose to pursue, career, college, military, technical school.
After arriving and starting my tenure on January 2, 2018, I will be opening my office up to having superintendent’s chats with the school community to better understand the great things that are happening in the Peru Central School District as well as things we can improve on or create in the future. My family will be joining me at a later date upon the selling of our home in the Catskill Mountains.
I look forward to seeing our students competing in athletic competitions as well as seeing our arts students perform throughout the remainder of the school year. I look forward to meeting the community and I will be starting as soon as I arrive having an opportunity to sit and speak with our seniors through exit interviews to see what their experiences have been at Peru.
I hope everyone has a great holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone after the New Year.
