Instructional Technology

Instructional Technology Vision Statement

Continuous advancement in technology continues to transform how people interact and make meaning from information, how communities form and people communicate, and how organizations function more efficiently. Digital resources and learning tools are changing the very nature of how we think, learn, and relate to one another. Technological literacy has become essential to the career and college readiness of every student in the digital age.

Digital resources and tools for learning provide streamlined access to large quantities of information from which we formulate a richer understanding of the world around us. This requires that students in the 21st Century practice a wide variety of functional, collaborative, and critical thinking skills relating to information, their sources, the creation of knowledge, and authentic opportunities to apply learning in real-life contexts.

It is entirely imaginable that schools across the globe will soon place students at the center of their own education pathways, relying more on technology to facilitate and differentiate learning experiences. Local schools are beginning to tie into a global learning network to promote the development of creative capacity, flexible problem solving, and the seamless use of digital tools to gather information, formulate understanding, and collaborate across boundaries. A digital-age education in Peru Central Schools must integrate the use of technology in every aspect of teaching and learning.

To engage successfully all students and staff in the noble and practical pursuit of continuous learning, the District needs to remain intentional in all of its decisions regarding technology. This includes the design and installation of its network architecture, selection of end-user devices, intended outcomes of learning applications, communication interfaces, integrated use of digital learning tools in professional development, and incorporation of technologies to improve operational effectiveness.

As a 21st Century learning institution, Peru Schools will build a digital-age learning culture that provides a rigorous, relevant, and truly engaging education for every student. While the goal of fostering citizenship remains central to our schools’ vision, we acknowledge the additional complexity of doing so in a broader global context in a world woven more closely together by technology. Digital citizenry requires an understanding of social, ethical, and legal responsibilities. To that end, we seek to empower every student to practice the respectful uses of digital learning and collaboration tools to encourage learning. We expect students and staff members to strive to enhance learning and improve the community using technology to become collaborative, productive, innovative, and ethical citizens.

PCSD Technology Goals 2016-2019

The District Technology Plan seeks to expand and enhance the digital connectivity infrastructure, which sustains the exponential growth of technological advancements that support student learning.

The following goals are district priorities to promote student and teacher use of the 4 C’s: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity

  1. Employ responsive and adaptable systems of hardware
  2. Foster student-centered learning environments
  3. Develop 21st Century learning skills in all students
  4. Demonstrate and promote responsible digital citizenship
  5. Implement professional development to promote continuous digital literacy
  6. Promote and support innovation in a professional digital environment

PCSD Instructional Technology Goals 2019-2021

Goal 1: Peru Central School will strive to establish a 1 to 1 student device ratio in order to allow learners access to technology in an anytime, anywhere, computing environment.

Goal 2: The Peru Central School District will make use of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards to develop and/or implement a common instructional technology curriculum, in order to promote digital independence in the global community.

Goal 3: Using curriculum from Common Sense Media and other providers, Peru CSD will promote and model digital citizenship strategies in order to ensure ethical and safe digital citizenship for all students and staff.
