New York State Testing for Fifth Graders
During the fifth grade year, students will take three New York State Assessments.  Exams in Social Studies, English/Language Arts, and Mathematics measure how well student are meeting or exceeding the New York State Learning Standards.  These exams are only "one piece of the puzzle" in helping students achieve; they are not the bottom line!!
Social Studies English/Language Arts Mathematics
November April May
Part I consists of 35 multiple choice questions and a section of Constructed Response Questions. 

On Part II students are required to write a Document-Based Question essay.  The test is based on content from kindergarten through fourth grade.

Part I students read various genres of reading selections, and answer questions based on the readings. 

Part II requires students to listen to an article, take notes, and answer questions. 

Finally, students will proofread a piece of writing.

Part I consists of 26 multiple choice questions. 

Part II is composed of eight multi-step problems.
