Primary Reading Teacher I grew up in a small town called Westville that neighbors Malone, NY (1.5hrs from Peru). I received my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and my Masters degree in Literacy from SUNY Potsdam. I worked as a Reading Intern and a long term Reading Teacher for Malone Central School District prior to this position. I have been a member of the Peru Primary faculty team since October of 2008. I am very happy to be a member of this school and I look forward in overcoming new challenges that will arise through my teaching career. I truly believe I am a "lifelong learner". My Most Favorable Reading Memory: I can remember as a young child every night, having my big sister read to me my favorite story, The Cow and The Elephant by Claude Clayton and she made the story come alive! Expression, Engagement, and Entertainment. Each time the story was read, a new adventure was revealed. I am very thankful for my sister's efforts in launching my Literacy journey. Job Description: I work with children in their classrooms as well as in small groups outside the classroom to reinforce skills addressed in the core curriculum. We practice daily high frequency words, phonemic awareness practices, phonics skills, comprehension, and fluency. Favorite Classic Books:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle The Mitten by Jan Brett Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech Goals: Produce effective communication with parents, peers, and colleagues in best meeting the needs of our students. Engagement- To modify my instruction to maintain student engagement throughout the entire Intervention. Represent the true values of Peru Primary's environment; dedication, respect, and compassion. Use my everyday lessons to learn something new each day about myself as a teacher, my students, and my instructional practices.
